Today Midsummer Scream announced a new panel presentation from LA's Haunted Hayride, which is under new management and will be re-imagined into a new experience under the creative direction of Jon Cooke this upcoming Halloween season.

Read more about it in the official press release below:

LONG BEACH, CA - Midsummer Scream, the world's largest Halloween and horror fan convention, is thrilled to announce a panel presentation from Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, which owns multiple haunted attractions and events across the nation.

In 2018, Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group acquired the assets of Ten Thirty One Productions, which owned the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride (LAHH). Guests will experience a completely re-imagined LA Haunted Hayride in Griffith Park this Halloween season, which will be unveiled at Midsummer Scream by the event's new Creative Director, Jon Cooke, of Plague Productions.

The presentation will take place at the Long Beach Convention Center on Sunday, August 4, and will feature Chris Stafford, CEO/Founding Partner of Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group; Warren Conard, Director of Operations/Founding Partner of Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group; Jon Cooke, Owner/Creative Director of Plague Productions; and Melissa Carbone, Founder of Ten Thirty One Productions and Producer of the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride. The presentation will be hosted by Ted Dougherty, Writer/Director at Plague Productions.

"We couldn’t be more excited to have the Thirteenth Floor team with us this year," says Midsummer Scream Creative Director, Rick West. "This group of talented, driven individuals has literally created a haunt empire across the nation by purchasing and plussing well-known attractions, and making them their own. For years, thousands of fans have attended the LA Haunted Hayride in Griffith Park; it’s a known attraction that is now part of the Thirteenth Floor arsenal. Bringing Jon Cooke on as the attraction's Creative Director is an exciting new chapter for the Hayride, and we couldn’t be more curious to see what he and his team have in store for us as they give Midsummer fans an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the mysterious town of Midnight Falls, and the strange characters that dwell there!"

In addition to their exciting panel presentation, Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group/LA Haunted Hayride will have a large show floor presence this year at Midsummer Scream, where guests will get their first in-person look at part of the town, Midnight Falls, and some of its infamous locals.

Midsummer Scream continues to be a beacon within the Halloween, horror, and haunt community, drawing fans from across America and beyond to Long Beach each summer. The participation of Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group bolsters the mission of Midsummer Scream in becoming a world stage for the haunt industry, where companies not just local to Southern California step into the spotlight and are celebrated by fans and peers of all walks, from all corners of the globe.

Tickets are on sale now at MidsummerScream.org.

Until next time, stay spooky!

Target is many people's most-anticipated Halloween shopping destination, and over the weekend they quietly released 2019's Halloween sneak peek! They have some wonderful themes this year, like Ghoulish Garden, Pumpkin Parlor, and Moonlight Bash! I am loving all the carnivorous plants they are featuring this year, as well as lots of black cat decor. I am really excited for the reveal of their Halloween collection, and I'm sure you are too, so without further ado, check out some nifty items from Target's Halloween 2019 collection below:

What are your favorites from the items above? I adore all the succulents, the decorative books, all the black cat items, and all the ghost goodies!

Keep your eyes peeled for more ghoulish goodies hitting the Target site soon for pre-order! And, of course, I'll share more Halloween finds with you here!

Grandin Road always impresses with its grandiose Halloween decor, so I was excited when they released a sneak peek of their 2019 Halloween Haven collection! This year they have lots of beautifully spooky props and decor, including more animated props and some wonderfully celestial-themed items.

Take a peek at Grandin Road's Halloween Haven collection for 2019 below and visit their site for more!

I am really liking those elegant floral arrangements (it may be because I just saw Midsommar, ha!!) as well as the life-size ghoul gang props. What are your favorite items above?

Stay spooky!

Sneak Peek: Halloween 2019 at World Market

One of my favorite places to shop during Halloween is Cost Plus World Market! They don't have as much as other stores, but I love their vintage-inspired decor and their Halloween sodas and treats. They have unique and well-made decorations that I find last longer than other stores' decor.

This year, they have some really neat decor I can't wait to get my claws on. Check out some of my fave items (so far) from World Market's Halloween 2019 collection below:

I am really loving the vintage pumpkin and those vintage lanterns! So pretty! And I'm super-stoked they have Addams Family merch (from both the old TV show as well as the new animated movie) - hopefully they will release some Addams Family kitchenwares like they did for Frankenstein a few years back. I'm sure they will be releasing more ghoulish goodies in the coming weeks, and these should be in-stock in World Market stores around the middle or end of August.

What are your favorite decor items so far?!

Until next time, stay spooky!

Only 100 Days To Halloween!

Whoa, I cannot believe there are only 100 days to Halloween (technically even less than 100 days to go by now)!! Even though Halloween is so much more than just one day a year for some of us, there is so much joy in realizing that the actual Halloween season will be here soon! Soon we will be surrounded by gorgeous autumn colors and everyone will be in the spooky spirit (and I couldn't be more ready!)

Even though I'm in the middle of a big move from Southern California to places northward, I have still been Halloween hunting (see everything I've found HERE)! I am really looking forward to celebrating Halloween in an entirely different location and actually getting to experience a real autumn!! I can't wait to see the colors of leaves changing, experience cooler temperatures, pick pumpkins in a real pumpkin patch, carve jack-o-lanterns in a new home, and soak up all the fall flavor!

I am going to try to keep up with the Halloween sneak peeks and in-store Halloween coverage as best I can, but my coverage this year may be a little light due to the fact that I am moving and will be looking for new digs and a new job and doing a bit of traveling. I encourage you to follow my Halloween fiends for all kinds of spooktacular Halloween goodness! My faves are Spooky Little Halloween (who graciously took over a Midsummer Scream panel for me when I found out I was moving, thanks Miranda!), Halloween Happy, HalloweenXO, Halloween Herbivore, Halloween Homemaker, and many more!

Follow along with my Halloween adventures by following me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter! Feel free to use any of the photos in this post to share that there are only 100 days to Halloween (remember to tag me if you share on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter)!

10 Things I'm Loving This July

$

0

By the time I post this, I'll be just a few days away from leaving behind Southern California and moving up north! I've been selling off a lot of my items and packing up the rest for what seems like months and I cannot wait to hit the road and start my new adventure with Mister Spooky and my cat Havoc!

As you can imagine, it has been another bananas month, I'm so glad I had some items that brought me joy this month. As per my monthly tradition, I'm sharing 10 things I loved this July. This monthly practice encourages me to reflect on things I'm grateful for this month as well as sharing some of my favorite things with you.

Here are my 10 Things I'm Loving this July:

1.) Leaving Southern California - It is finally real! By the time this month is up, I'll be leaving SoCal and I'm so excited! I am ready for cooler temperatures, more nature, more trees, and being closer to family. Of course, I'm going to miss all the incredible events, vegan food, horror community, haunts and Halloween events, and all the incredible people I've met here, but I know that this move will bring new adventures and opportunities and ultimately lead to more happiness for me.

2.) Crawl - I had a blast watching this killer alligator flick in theaters! Ok, it wasn't the most realistic of films, but for a summer popcorn flick it definitely delivered! Plus it had some incredibly tense moments and [MILD SPOILER ALERT] the dog doesn't die!!

3.) Epic Beyond Cali Burrito - I thought we were spoiled by the Beyond Avocado Tacos, but then Del Taco introduced this menu item (that many people were already veganizing when ordering, but now it's on their permanent menu)! Just tell them to hold the sour cream (it already doesn't come with cheese) and prepare to enter Beyond burrito/french fry heaven!

4.) Sounds to Make You Shiver record - So, I'm moving and getting rid of a ton of stuff. I've been using OfferUp and NextDoor apps to sell stuff, but one day Mister Spooky looked up Halloween stuff for sale and we spotted this Sounds to Make You Shiver record. Neither of us have any records, let alone a record player, plus we aren't supposed to be buying anything because of the move, but I couldn't resist this record with spooky Halloween sounds! I haven't even been able to play it yet, but I love the artwork and plan to frame it once we get settled wherever we land.

5.) Halloween Sneak Peeks - Stores have been releasing sneak peeks of their 2019 Halloween collections online and I can't keep up! From Target to World Market to Pottery Barn to Pier 1 to Grandin Road, there are lots of Halloween goodies you can pre-order now or at least look forward to in stores! And some places like Michael's, HomeGoods, and At Home already have started putting out their Halloween items in stores.

6.) Eugene, Oregon - I visited for a wedding, and this college town was so cute!! I was only there a few days, but I got to finally visit Cornbread Cafe (their fried "chick'n" was incredible!!), got to grab vegan pizza from Sizzle Pie (my first time visiting ever!!) and vegan Voodoo Doughnuts (conveniently located across the street from Sizzle Pie in downtown Eugene) and see lots of family. I loved the beautiful houses and trees everywhere and just how friendly everyone was! I'm hoping I get to make a trip back.

7.) Crying At Disney Podcast - Two ladies from two of my favorite shops, Meagan of Meagan Meli Illustration and Andrea of KMSxCo, started their own podcast discussing their love of all things Disney! As someone who grew up at Disneyland and loved Disney movies as a kid (and still do), it's fun listening to them knowledgeably chat about the most Magical Place on Earth!

8.) Less than 100 days to Halloween - Can you believe it?! We are now in the single digits in the countdown to Halloween! It's so close I can nearly taste the pumpkin spice! This Halloween is going to be completely different for me as I'm moving, but I can't wait to discover new Halloweenie events, stores, and pumpkin patches to explore!

9.) ID True Crime Shows on Hulu - I have been binging the hell out of all the new (to me) true crime shows that recently dropped on Hulu! I really liked The 1990s: The Deadliest Decade that covered a different murder every episode, Deadly Legacy that covered the search for John Wayne Gacy's unidentified victims, The Case That Haunts Me where detectives and others involved re-tell their hardest cases, and many more. They are the perfect thing to put on while I'm finishing up packing.

10.) Kite Hill Vegan Tortellini - OMG, tortellini used to be one of my favorite dishes and I haven't had it since I went vegan over 11 years ago. I was ecstatic when I heard Kite Hill was making vegan tortellini!! I finally found them at Whole Foods and enjoyed devouring the whole container. They are filled with almond milk ricotta and so dang good!

My July was a little all over the place, but I am excited for all the new things that are ahead for me! I'll be posting finds here, and you can follow along with my adventures on Instagram, too!

I always love to hear about items you are digging this month, feel free to share them with me in the comments!

Sur La Table always has quality kitchen supplies, so I love browsing their Halloween items. They have a small but excellent selection of Halloween goodies like tableware, utensils, linens, baking supplies, and more. They just started putting autumn and Halloween items online, and you can check out some of them below:

That skeleton cakelet pan looks so cute!! I also always love their spatulas!

Halloween 2019 at Target's Dollar Spot

Hello fiends! Apologies for my absence - I moved out of Southern California at the end of July and have been busy since then helping my family clean up my late grandparents' ranch and getting ready for another move even further north soon! I am in a remote location in Northern California at the moment - it's gorgeous and I'm enjoying it, but I am so far away from everything and when I do get into the nearest town it doesn't have many stores. Plus, my internet connection isn't the most reliable (though this means I've been disconnecting more and more, which is so healthy mentally!). So, Halloween updates may be a bit few and far between this year since I'm going through so many changes.

However, I did visit a Target about an hour or so away from me recently, and found they were just stocking their Dollar Spot or Bullseye's Playground with Halloween items! Not everything was out yet, but it was incredibly thrilling to see Halloweenie items at Target!

See what I spotted in Bullseye's Playground at Target below:

Eeeeeeeeeek, love seeing orange and black in stores!

 Cute little pumpkins!

Light-up jack-o-lanterns and ghosties (I want the ghost)!

 Candy bowls

 Ghost and jack-o-lantern string lights.

 Trick or Treat banner

 Bar towels

Decorative headstones and Trick or Treat blocks

 Boo pillow

 Happy Halloween pillow

 More decorative gourds

 Trick or Treat pillow

This one was my favorite - Boo Pumpkin pillow!

Neon lights are back - they had a pumpkin- and candy-shaped lights (there
is also a witch's hat, but I didn't see it at my store)

How adorable is this little witchy sign?!

More cute candy bowls - I love using these for storing bracelets, sponges
on the kitchen sink, key holders, and more!

These little houses were pretty darn precious!

Ahhhhhh these little lights were so spooky sweet!

Plastic plates

Am I the only kid that loved getting Halloween stickers while out trick or
treating?! I love that Halloween stickers for trick or treaters are back!

Instead of using this as a plate, I would use this as a tray to store things
like rings, earrings, office supplies, and so on. It would fit perfect in
dresser or desk drawers!

Halloween buckets - great for Halloween gifts, trick or treat buckets,
decor, planters, storage, pencil/pen holders, and so much more.

 Window clings, notepads, and pencils

 Halloween pencils and treat bags

These blank books were so freaking cute and come in a variety of styles

More blank books that make my heart flutter with Halloween joy!

These craft kits featuring stitch kits would be great for rainy day crafts!

Adore these paint-your-own spooky trees and haunted houses

Haunted House sign and Halloween party supplies

 Yes please!

These broomstick beverage stirrers were so precious!!

 Hocus Pocus sign

Halloween socks

Bat cat fabric bucket

Jack-o-lantern and witch light-up necklaces

Spooky banner

Love the color scheme of this autumn foliage decor

 I love seeing pumpkins!!

 Autumn leaves pretty please

 Fabric foxes

Pumpkin succulents and more fall decor

And of course the herald of more Halloweenie things to come, Target's
Halloween card collection!

Does your Dollar Spot/Bullseye's Playground at Target have Halloween stuff yet? I'm thinking that most Target stores will have their dollar section stocked with Halloween after this weekend, woo hoo!

Until next time, stay spooky!

Halloween 2019 at Trader Joe's

One of the things I look forward to the most every autumn is the release of Trader Joe's Halloween food! They always have the ghoulest snacks and I stock up on their frightful food every fall. And their vegan options are always to die for (though I wish a few more of their items were vegan - I'm looking at you, pumpkin spice cream cheese!).

Unfortunately for me, I'm hundreds of miles away from a Trader Joe's at the moment. However, I took a recent trip up to Oregon and Washington and made it my mission to seek out Trader Joe's stores up there so I could indulge in some of my favorite fall foods! I got lucky and the Trader Joe's I visited were already filling their shelves with Halloween treats, so I snapped a few pics so I could share all the vegan goodies they have this year.

Take a look at their vegan Halloween food below:

Faves Halloween and Pumpkin Joe-Joe's are back!

Pumpkin bagels - I love slathering mine with some Miyoko's or Earth Balance
butter and Trader Joe's Apple Cider Jam!

The highly-addicting Candy Corn Popcorn is so dangerous - I usually eat a
whole bag in one sitting (no shame here!).

The Fall Zucchette Pasta is adorably shaped like pumpkins and pairs well
with a cashew cream sauce or a butter sage sauce. Bone appetite!

The Pumpkin Chocolate Chunk Oatmeal Cookie Mix is new this year! Just
use vegan substitutes when making cookies with it!

I love stocking up on a few boxes of Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix so I
can get a taste of fall year-round. Again, just use a vegan substitute for the
egg (I loooove Neat Egg) and you'll be enjoying some delicious pumpkin
bread in no time!

For those that are gluten-free, there is this GF Pumpkin Bread and Muffin
Baking Mix to the rescue!

Another new item I adore - Fall Leaf Corn Tortilla Chips - yes, the chips
are shaped like fall leaves!! I heard they go well with the Trader Joe's
Bloody Mary Salsa!

OMG Pumpkin Rolls, droooooool! Another one of my faves for sure! And
yes, they really are vegan!

This is some of the best spiced cider ever! Trader Joe's Organic Cold
Pressed Fuji Apple Spice Cider with Cinnamon and Clove are what
fall dreams taste like - crisp, tart, and sweet.

They're baaaaaaaaack! Ghosts and Bats Crispy Potato Snacks are my go-to
snack this time of year. I wish I could snack on ghost and bat shaped chips
all year long!

A big bowl of comforting oatmeal is a fantastic way to start a fall day. I
love how quick it is to make this Pecan Pumpkin Instant Oatmeal and
the taste is like getting all wrapped up in your fave fall sweater!

I don't see many people talk about the Organic Pumpkin Spice Granola Bark,
but this stuff is legit tasty! It has a really nice crunch and I like the rich
chocolate they use on it.

Pumpkin O's are a staple around the autumn season in my house!

Trader Joe's doesn't just have fall food items, they also have skincare items
like this luxurious Pumpkin Body Butter. You'll smell like a pumpkin patch
in the middle of an apple orchard with this delectable lotion!

Trader Joe's also has this new Pumpkin Spice Face Mask! At first I didn't
think it was vegan since it lists silk in the ingredients, but a intrepid
Instagram follower did the leg-work and confirmed with Trader Joe's
that the mask is suitable for vegans (they use synthetic silk).

Sugar skulls in tons of colors, in both small and large sizes, featuring a
variety of succulents.

 PUMPKINS!

Fall Fantasy beauties - I love the warty ones!

Ghost pumpkins

I didn't get photos of all of Trader Joe's vegan Halloween options - they also have some great autumn ciders, teas, coffee, candy, jam, etc. that for some reason I didn't get photos of this year. They also have other autumn / Halloween items that I choose not to feature since they are not vegan.

Here is what I ended up buying:

What are your must-have fall foods/goodies at Trader Joe's this year? I'm dying to know...leave me a comment below and tell me!

Halloween 2019 at Target

$

I stopped into Target after my trip up to Washington and Oregon last week to hunt for Halloween. Since I'm so far from everything here on the Lost Coast, I didn't expect them to have anything Halloweenie out yet besides their dollar section (which I covered HERE!). I was surprised and delighted to find that their Halloween section did in fact have lots of terrifying treats out on the shelves already! I'll share everything I saw below...

To be honest, I'm not too into Target's collection this year, and there isn't anything I absolutely must have. Plus, since I'm in the process of moving I don't want to really buy anything since I don't have the space, don't want to move it, and would rather save money at the moment. So I'm actually happy that Target doesn't have much I want this year, haha!

I did like the Little Shop of Horrors plants I've covered in my sneak peek post, but unfortunately my Target didn't have them (maybe they will get them at a later date, or maybe they already sold out of them, I'm not sure). I was happy to see they had some old favorites returning (or maybe it is just leftover stock from last year) as well as some new items and designs.

So, let me take you on the tour of what I spotted in Target's Halloween section this year:

Eeeeek, always love this sight at Target!

AdoraBOOle ghost and pumpkin candy jars

Pretty potion bottles

That little carriage is around for anyone that didn't get it last year!

I'm such a sucker for banners!

That batty trick or treat sign!! Those snake candle holders!!

I really love the fake books that Target puts out - contemplating buying a
few of their new designs this year since they are so precious!!

I love these ghouls and boils!

Candelabras and ghosties - the candelabra lights up and I think the ghost
dances around? I couldn't get him to work, so I'm not sure.

So many new pals!

Trick or treaters

Their Dia de los Muertos section was expanded this year, with lots of
pretty things for altars, like picture frames and mini altars.

Ok, these little fake succulents in autumn mugs were just adorable!!

Ghostly goodies for getting booed!

These were little wooden facades and so cute!! I really want the spooky
movie one! They had a ton more, too, plus little wooden people / accessories
you could purchase separately.

Loved this light-up "Stay Scary" tombstone

Howling wolf statuary, light-up jack-o-lantern gravestone, and yowling
cat decor - which one would you pick?

Halloween Pyrex! I usually buy a ton of these, but luckily for my wallet
I don't like the designs this year at all.

The monster boombox is back, and there is a new skeleton DJ that is kinda
cool (though the obnoxious DJ sounds do get old quick).

Baking supplies

Yay, Surf Sweets in Spooky Shapes are back this year and these
 happen to be vegan!!

They had this gourd-geous pumpkin dishes in the "grownup" decor
section of the store.

How cool are these fake black succulents and skull jars?

Loved this black snack platter! I would use it year-round.

Um, hello deliciousness!!!

Maple Creme and Halloween Oreos (yup, they are vegan!).

Tees in the women's section

If this was a black sweatshirt I would have bought it in a heartbeat!

Halloween PJ set - love the design but I don't buy these anymore since
I never wear the pajama top and they tend to pill after a few washes.

Another Halloween pajama set and an adult skeleton onesie!

Skull pajama tee with leggings

Nightmare Before Coffee with cobweb leggings - this is the one item I was
after this year and I snagged it! The leggings are surprisingly thick and
perfect for sleeping in! Plus the shirt is soft and roomy.

Kitty cat haunted house

Pet bed

Cat toys and costumes

Dog toys

Yaaaaaas, so glad they have both these flavors in single-serve size!

The Toffee Latte Cold Brew is so dang delicious!

These are new, and I love oat milk, so I can't wait to try them!!

That was my jaunt around Target checking out all the Halloween goodies. I'm not really feeling much this year (which, I have to keep reminding myself, is good!) and probably won't be buying much. I snagged the Nightmare Before Coffee PJ set, a small "Spooky" banner from Bullseye's Playground, some Toffee Latte Cold Brew (which is more Christmas-y than Halloweenie, eeeeeek!), a bat toy for my cat Havoc, and I think that's it so far. I may have to go back for some black succulents!

What do you think of Target's Halloween selection this year? Has your store even stocked the main Halloween section yet? I've already started a discussion about this on my Instagram and Facebook pages - join me there if you haven't already!

Until next time, stay spooky!

Note: I am not affiliated with Target, I just love sharing my Halloween finds with you!

A to Z Candles Halloween 2019 Collection

$

0

A to Z Candles make some of my fave candles and I order from them year round (my fave scent is Apple Cider Donut - it makes my house smell like sugary, fall donuts year-round!), but their Halloween collection is really something special! This indie, family-owned company was kind enough to send me their Halloween 2019 collection, and I am swooning over the scents! They are the same as last year (check out my review from 2018 HERE), but I am so glad they are back since they are so delicious! I wanted to feature them here (I've already shared them on my Instagram) since they deserve all the attention they have been getting lately! These are seriously some of the best candles and you can read more about them below!

The five Halloween scents are Haunted Cemetery, Hocus Pocus, Pumpkin Patch, All Hallows' Eve, and Trick or Treat. I love them since they all offer something unique in their scent profiles. They are not your typical, overly-cinnamon scented autumn candles, but have far more depth to their scents, not to mention they are made with high-quality, long-burning soy wax.

The scent descriptions are as follows:
  • Haunted Cemetery evokes the feeling of wandering around a graveyard at night and smells like fresh-tilled soil, mossy oaks, incense, and cedarwood.
  • Hocus Pocus is a bewitching mix of cinnamon bark, bergamot, cannabis flower, jasmine, rose, musk, black tea, and patchouli.
  • Pumpkin Patch smells like taking a hayride at a countryside pumpkin patch and apple farm on a crisp fall day.
  • All Hallows' Eve smells like blackened licorice, smoky cloves, and spicy cinnamon.
  • Trick or Treat smells like a full bag of candy on Halloween night, sweet candy corn mixed with tart candy apple and a hint of rich chocolate.
They come in a variety of sizes and you can also purchase other year-round candles from A to Z! They also carry wax melts and warmers, Mr. Bones skull candles, room sprays, and reed diffusers!

Support small business this year and treat yourself to some delectable candles from A to Z Candles that will fill your home with scintillating scents and help create that perfect Halloween ambiance.

Visit A to Z Candles today to order the Halloween collection before it disappears for another year!

Stay spooky!

Halloween 2019 at Michaels

Oops, this post is a little late - but better late than never, right?! I truly meant to post this way back at the beginning of August, but since I moved from Southern California and am still searching for a new place to call my home, it kinda slipped through the cracks! I'm sure you've probably already seen everything Michaels has to offer for Halloween this year, but just in case you haven't or in case you missed something, I thought I would still share some pics that I took more than a month ago when they first started putting out Halloween!

I really dug all the vintage-inspired decor this year at Michaels; they really hit it out of the pumpkin patch! It is by far my most favorite Halloween collection I've seen in 2019. Check it out below:

I nabbed the "Dead Tired" mug, "'Tis the Season to be Spooky" tumbler, and a vintage-inspired jack-o-lantern head blow mold. What have you purchased from Michaels this year?

Halloween 2019 at Fred Meyer

We don't have Fred Meyer grocery stores in California, so when we were up in Oregon recently we popped into one to grab some water and snacks and were surprised at how huge they are! I also had no idea they had a Halloween decor, which I quickly gravitated towards and was delighted to find they had a ton of! I didn't buy anything, but had a blast browsing their sprawling Halloween section. I can't wait to get back up there and get back into a Fred Meyer (they also had a ton of vegan options in the grocery section of the store!).

Here are all the Halloween goodies I spotted in Fred Meyer:

Loved this adorable little black cats in jack-o-lanterns!

These gargoyles were super weird!

Huge Halloween display filled with adorable things!

Black cats, candy corn trees, and spooky succulents. Plus a little bat trailer
decoration!

If you're into the whole pastel aesthetic, here are some pumpkins for you.

These plushies were so cute and squeezable!

Love the candy corn colored jack-o-lanterns!

Cat-o-lanterns!

All black decor

Loved this color-changing jack-o-lantern! He was huge, too!

Those black cat pumpkins!!

Light up zombie heads

Have you picked up anything from Fred Meyer this spooky season?? I'm so happy I have a new haunt to check out for Halloween goodies - and I may be back soon to pick up a few things!

I'm posting this a few days late, but this video by Nocturnaloner featuring Sam Heimer's artwork and "Pagan Holiday" music by Harley Poe is a perfect way to kick off October! If you're a long-time reader, you may recognize Nocturnaloner's name from past Halloween seasons (you can check out past videos I've featured here, here, and here!). He painstakingly animates all his videos and sets them to atmospheric music. I simply adore his magical videos that are imbued with the spooky spirit! See his latest creation below:

This video features 48 art pieces by Sam Heimer,, all eerily animated by Nocturnaloner and set to the spooktacular "Pagan Holiday Part 1 - A Celebration" song by Harley Poe. A lot of work and love went into the making of this video and it shows!

Here is another one from a few years ago that I adore as well:

This video is another perfect herald of Halloween! I love these videos and think they don't get enough love, so go check out Nocturnaloner's other videos on YouTube!

Stay spooky, fiends!

Where Did October Go?

Hey Boo, longtime no spook!

I cannot believe that October is nearly over and Halloween is already upon us! I barely got to celebrate this year (see life update below - lots of huge changes!!), but I am super grateful for the little things I did do and very happy I got to experience an actual autumn this year. Read more about my recent adventures below...

Ahhhhh I live in Washington now!!

Apologies for my prolonged absence - October is usually one of my most productive blogging months, but this month I was not able to devote much time to you, my dear fiends. The reason for that is that I've been in the process of moving. It seems like I've been on the move forever - I left Southern California at the beginning of August, stayed a month with my parents in Northern California while exploring Portland and Seattle, and then finally moved north to Washington at the end of September. We found a creepy-cute cottage in Seattle right at the beginning of October, so Mister Spooky and I have been busy dealing with furniture shopping, unboxing our stuff, exploring the city, and searching for jobs. We are still doing all of that stuff now, so I haven't had much time for Halloweening, sadly!

Still can't get over how gorgeous it is here!

However, I am ecstatic that the autumn here is gorgeous - falling yellow, orange, and red leaves everywhere! And it's actually chilly! And rainy! Overall I am loving the crisp feel of autumn and it makes me so happy to see the colorful leaves just outside our windows. There is even a park near our house with trails that meander through the beautiful forest and my heart is so happy to spend time in the trees.

In my happy place!

I am a bit sad I haven't done any haunts this season - and there are a few in Seattle and just outside of the city I wanted to experience. Hopefully next year I can hit them all! I was able to go to a pumpkin patch, and it was delightful! The day was partly sunny, the pumpkin patch was huge and even had a corn maze (which I did not do), and there was a brisk chill in the air that just made everything feel right.

This is my view from the bedroom window! I'm batty for fall leaves!

Well, I hope that explains why I've been so quiet here - I haven't forgotten about my spooky fiends, but I might be away for some time while I build my life here in this new and exciting place. I do hope you are enjoying your Halloween season and all it has to offer, whether you are doing it all or just taking it easy this year. Make sure you soak up all that eerie atmosphere of the spooky season and remember that Halloween is everyday!

Yes, more trees because I am officially obsessed with fall here!

Now, if I may leave you with a song that has spoken to my haunted heart this Halloween and I think will speak to yours too. It is called "October" and it is by The Ghost In You (if he sounds familiar, I've shared his boo-tiful songs before!) and completely captures our love of October and that special feeling this month gives us. If you love Dead Men's Bones, this will be right up your alley! Check out the video for "October" below or go listen to it on Bandcamp. I highly recommend seeking out his other songs/albums as well as a children's book he wrote called The Undead Adventures of Bone Boy and Ghost Girl (I say children's book, but it is for spooky kids of all ages)!

Warm yourself up this chilly autumn with this touching love song to October, which features the chorus:

"October, please wait for me
October, you set me free
October, you're what I need
October, you're part of me"

Happy Halloween and stay spooky!

Imperfect Foods Subscription Box Review

After moving to Seattle, one of the first things I did was re-start my Imperfect Foods subscription box! I had been without it for a few months while in the middle of the move, and I missed it so much! I originally started my subscription in 2017 (read my then review of the box HERE), loved it and been a big supporter of Imperfect ever since! Not only am I getting fresh produce and pantry staples straight to my door, but with every box I am helping to fight food waste.

You see, Imperfect sources produce with minor cosmetic imperfections that would otherwise be discarded by grocery stores as well as other groceries that are short-coded, have a label change, or some other reason they aren't able to be stocked in stores. In providing what most would consider "unusable,"Imperfect helps support farmers by helping them sell more of what they grow, helps save product, water, land, and labor from going to waste, advocates that fresh fruit and veggies be affordable and accessible for everyone, and embraces beauty in all shapes, sizes, and colors!

Some of the yummy foods (all vegan) included in my last Imperfect box
including Clif bars, crackers, chips, farro, tea, pasta, Califia Pumpkin
Spice creamer, TCHO drinking chocolate, Bitchin' sauce and artichoke
dip, Alter Eco Chocolate bar, Miyoko's cream cheese, Parmella's Nut
Cheese Alfredo, jam, Field Roast sausage, pasta, and more!

I love all the work that Imperfect is doing to make our world a better place, but I also love how they are now offering pantry staples, refrigerated items, and so many more groceries at discounts up to 30% off grocery store prices. I have been able to score so many fantastic vegan items in the Imperfect box lately, like Field Roast burgers and Chao cheese, salad dressings and other condiments, Upton's seitan bacon and jackfruit, chips, cereal, Dave's Killer Bread and bagels, oatmeal, grains, kombucha, coffee drinks, Califia Farms' Oat Milk, and so much more!

Imperfect Foods has really grown since I first joined, and I'm still proud to support them and their crusade against food waste. They are now available in 25 cities across the United States (with more being added) and are making such an amazing impact in the food industry. I also love how easy it is to sign up and manage your delivery on their website.

So many great items in my last Imperfect Box (minus the produce - I already
ate all of it!). Everything pictured is vegan! Some things included pizza crust,
Clif bars, cookies, crackers, chips, pasta, grains, tea, Miyoko's cream cheese,
Field Roast breakfast sausages, Annie's gummies, tortillas, Bitchin' sauce and
artichoke dip, TCHO drinking chocolate, Upton's seitan bacon, Chao cheese,
instant ramen, apple chips, and chocolate bars!

You can choose how often you want your box (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) and how large of a box you want. I also love how easy and fun the ordering process is! A few days before your delivery day, you can choose exactly what goes into your box. Every time there is fresh new fruit, vegetables, and grocery items to choose from and you can order as little or as much as you like. Then everything gets delivered right to your door during a specified time frame that you specify on your delivery day. It is all so easy and I can't believe I didn't start an Imperfect box subscription sooner.

With the holidays coming up, the Imperfect Foods box will make your life so much easier. You can get food delivered right to your door, so no more rushing to the store or fighting the crowds during the busy holiday season! Without having to go to the store (or at least reducing how often you go), you can spend your time with family or on more important things, plus you will save money as well!

Last month's Imperfect box!

This holiday season and beyond, save money, feel good about the food you are putting in your body, help fight food waste, spend less time at the grocery store so that you can focus on doing more of what you love by signing up for your Imperfect box.

Right now, you can save $10 on your first Imperfect Foods' box by signing up with my referral link!

Scared to Death: The Thrill of Horror Film Exhibit

This past weekend I was lucky enough to check out Scared to Death, a horror exhibit at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, Washington. This installation at MoPop features over 50 props and costumes from horror shows and movies like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Walking Dead, The Shining, Pet Sematary, Frankenstein, Hostel, Blair Witch, and many more. I was so incredibly excited to get to see this exhibit, and it didn't disappoint! I got to geek out over the props and costumes from some of my favorite horror films, watch video clips of well-known creators talk about notable horror films, and immerse myself in the delightfully macabre atmosphere of the exhibit.

So, you start the exhibit (which is tucked into the back corners of the Museum of Pop Culture), by descending down a staircase bathed in red, wallpapered with faces of people screaming. You enter into the exhibit and are immediately met with a body-bag maze to your right and a zombie quarantine zone to your left. Around every corner you may come face-to-face with a xenomorph, or Jason, or a bloody severed head, or a nook to sit down and watch short interviews with notable horror creators discussing the influence of specific films. You can enter into a cathedral dripping with blood highlighting vampire lore and props, holler your heart out in the sound-proofed Scream Box (which will take a photo of you as you scream), and of course take advantage of the interactive photo-ops.

Take a virtual walk through of the Scared to Death horror exhibit below:

Overall, I had a great time at the Scared to Death exhibit. I was glad I was able to see so many horror movie props in the same place and I think any horror movie fan would be delighted to spend some time checking out all these pieces of horror history. I did think it was a bit weird that parents let their little kids into this exhibit, especially since the exhibit featured some gory set pieces (it's rated PG-13). My only other complaint is that the exhibit is pretty small and I wish it showcased more props and/or costumes from horror. I do hope they continue adding pieces so that they can grow this exhibit.

Despite these small issues, I otherwise wholly enjoyed my time at this exhibit! And if you go, you can also check out the museum's many other exhibits, covering music, video games, movies, and more.

For more info, visit the Museum of Pop Culture's website.
